Thank you for join me on my culinary adventure as I sample and document all my (hopefully) tasty and creative meals. I'm looking to expand my eating and cooking horizons, as long as they don't involve mushrooms or olives, or most meats......

I hope you enjoy my food blog (flog?)

Pulled Chicken, Take 2

We used the leftover Slow Cooker Pulled Chicken to make quesadillas.

These may or may not have been eaten for breakfast.

My first crock pot recipe

I've been wanting to break out the slow cooker for a long time now, but haven't because unfortunately, it isn't slow enough. If I put it on before work, it would end up running about 10 hours before I get home, and that's apparently a big food safety no no.

I finally got the chance this week when Dan decided to work from home due to a massive storm and laryngitis. I left him with directions, and viola! Dinner.

This was super simple, and came out really tasty.

2 packages bone-in chicken thighs
1 bottle BBQ Sauce (we used Sweet Baby Rays)
1/2 cup Italian salad dressing (store brand)
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1.Place chicken in a slow cooker. In a bowl, mix the barbecue sauce, Italian salad dressing, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over the chicken.
2.Cover, and 6 to 8 hours on Low.

Dan put it on around 11, and at 6 I pulled the chicken out, took it off the bones, shredded it, and dumped it back in the sauce to simmer for another half hour.

Max Couldn't wait for it to be done.

Dick's Last Resort

Even after all the food the night before, and a giant breakfast, in the midst of our sightseeing in Boston, we decided it was time for lunch. Yes, we went to a chain restaurant, but I'd always wanted to go to Dick's. We had a blast.

New Year's Eve

Dan and I took a mini trip to Boston to celebrate New Year's. We dined at the Historic Parker's Restaurant, which claims to be the birthplace of the Boston Cream Pie.

It was ALOT of food.
Pumpkin and Butternut Squash Bisque, Oysters,
Arugula Salad, Beet Salad,
Seafood Stew, Poached Salmon,
Baked Alaska

Everything was very good, but by the end of the meal I was so stuffed and sleepy that I needed a nap to make it until Midnight.

Now, because we all know that New Year's Resolutions don't kick in until the 4th or 5th of January, here's my dirty little secret.

I flippin love Corned Beef Hash.

(not the prettiest food)

And of course Dan is a good enough to sport to order it also, so I don't feel too guilty. His came over brown bread, topped with (drool) Poached Eggs and Hollandaise, and mine topped with good-ole sunny side up.

Now, back to healthy eating.

Sloppy Joes

In elementary school I always brought a bagged lunch. After all the cooler kids bought their hot meals, the lunch ladies would give away all the extra meals. I can remember putting away 3 sloppy joes in a sitting back then. Turns out, I still can.

Here's a slightly healthier version.

Turkey Sloppy Joes

1 pound ground turkey
1 chopped onion
1 chopped green bell pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 cup tomato sauce
worchester sauce, salt and ground black pepper to taste

1.In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the turkey, onion, and green pepper; drain off liquids.
2.Stir in the rest of the ingrediants, and heat until thickened.

Spaghetti and (turkey) meatballs

I don't have a meatball recipe, I just fling things into the bowl and pray for the best.

This creation contained ground turkey, oatmeal (ran out of bread crumbs), garlic, basil, oregano, Parmesan cheese and an egg, baked for about 30 minutes, then dropped into sauce.

I don't have any strong attachment to meatballs. I think I may be sabotaging my balls in hopes that someone will stop asking that I make them. So far, no luck.
